PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
